I was first introduced to Bowenwork for my longstanding GI issues and it helped tremendously – so much so I pursued Bowenwork certification. What intrigues me about Bowenwork is how it works with the fascia, lymph, and nervous systems. Bowenwork is such a gift to know and be able to practice.

After receiving much relief with massage therapy from scoliosis-induced back pain, Mary began her career in holistic bodywork in 1986, earning certifications in Swedish and Sports Massage from The American Institute of Massage Therapy, Inc. in Costa Mesa, California. Her desire to learn more about anatomy and physiology prompted her to further her education. Having studied and performed dance for many years in Pittsburgh, PA, and New York City, she followed her lifelong passion and earned a B.A. in Dance from San Jose State University in 1992. Shortly thereafter, she returned to her family roots in Pittsburgh and established her private massage therapy practice, Therapy at Hand, Inc.
Combining her love of dance, experience with the benefits of movement and knowledge of bodywork, Mary developed various restorative movement classes designed to eliminate pain and restore natural movement, which she has taught for many years. In 2002 she discoverd the Nia Technique, a barefoot movement practice that blends nine different movement art forms to create the unique, healing sensation of Nia. She immediately fell in love with this joyful movement form and that same year went on to earn her White Belt certification in Portland, OR, and returned in 2003 to earn her Blue Belt certification. She continues to teach Nia classes and workshops.
Knowing absolutely nothing about Bowenwork, she attended her first class in 2004 at the invitation of her cousin. Although still very skeptical after the first day of instruction, which had involved so little actual touch, she returned the next morning a true believer, having experienced a profound healing in her own body. She earned her certification in 2005 and began to transition her massage practice to specialize in Bowenwork. She is very excited to be an instructor and to teach such a profound body of work.
If you are interested in learning Bowenwork but cannot attend on the scheduled dates please feel free to contact me directly so that we can discuss an alternative date.
